More than a Million Dollars in Grants are Still Available

Verizon and Project Lead The Way (PLTW) are teaming up to bring high-quality computer science education to middle schools across the state of Indiana.

Schools that meet eligibility requirements can apply for one of a number of $20,000 grants which will go toward funding high-quality, hands-on computer science curriculum and teacher training. It’s all part of an $8 million commitment from Verizon to ensure students are developing the knowledge, skills, and career awareness for today’s technology-based economy.

Since 2014, the Verizon-PLTW partnership has reached nearly 50,000 students – the majority of whom are female and under-represented minorities. Those students have developed computer science knowledge and skills by creating apps that solve challenges in their communities, and strengthened job skills such as critical thinking and collaboration.

Indiana-based public, charter, private and faith-based schools are eligible to apply for one of the grants as long as more than 70 percent of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Schools that receive grant funding will use the funds to implement PLTW’s middle school computer science courses, as well as professional development for teachers and technology equipment.

The application due date is Dec. 15.
