Evansville, Ind. – For the tenth consecutive year, Vectren Energy Delivery (Vectren) and the National Energy Foundation (NEF) plan to bring Energy Safe Kids, an interactive, hands-on safety education program, to area schools. Based on fourth-grade curriculum, the program educates children about natural gas safety through classroom presentations and take-home energy safety booklets.

Energy Safe Kids presentations will be at the following schools next week:

  • Maple Ridge Elementary School – Monday, Sept. 18 at 8:45 a.m.
  • Cross Street Christian School – Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Frankton Elementary School – Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.

“It is important both our customers and our children understand natural gas safety,” said Mike Roeder, vice president of government affairs and president of Vectren North. “Energy Safe Kids is a fun, memorable program for fourth graders to learn about the properties of natural gas and what to do when they suspect a natural gas leak.”

This fall, Vectren and NEF plan to provide approximately 180 classroom presentations to more than 10,000 students in more than 170 schools throughout Vectren’s Indiana service territories: Vectren North and Vectren South.

Participating students will learn about the basics of natural gas. Each student will receive an Energy Safety booklet that encourages him/her to Live Smart and Take Action by following safety precautions at home and at school. Each participating teacher/classroom will receive teaching materials that include a teacher guide, accompanying CD and energy instructional posters.
